Welcome to our Homestead Organic Gardening Pages

We  grow large organic gardens of vegetables, flowers, butterflies, beneficial insects and birds.

We start the rows with carpet in-between the rows to prevent hard rain run-off of the garden soil.  Also you can work in the garden right after the rains.  It holds the moisture in much better than just dirt and mulch.  These rows with the carpet stay cool and wet even in the heat.

Large Tomato rows

I use cheap colorful fabric flowers early in the spring to attract the insects and birds.  Plus it really colors up the garden. -->

I have Hummingbird feeders in the garden and they come back every year.

We fill up the rows with mulched pony manure.  We just pile it high up.  We do the rows in early spring, March, so it has time to set before planting time.

Tomatoes and Peppers will come up on their own also because of the heavy mulch thru the winter.  We usually have hundreds of volunteer plants.
